What causes a damp passenger side floorwell in a Chevrolet Corvette C8 E-Ray?

On the C8 Corvette platform, including the E-Ray, a damp passenger-side floor is almost always caused by an issue with the A/C condensation drain line. This is a very common known issue, and there are a couple of different ways it fails.

Here is what you need to look for:

1. Disconnected A/C Drain Hose (The Most Common Cause) Chevrolet actually issued Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) #N212327740 because the HVAC condensation drain hoses were leaving the factory not fully installed, causing water to leak directly into the cabin ⁴. This exact issue has been confirmed to affect newer E-Rays as well, where the air conditioning collection hose simply needs to be reconnected or replaced ¹.

• The Fix: You can access this by pulling back the center tunnel trim panel on the passenger side. If the rubber elbow is hanging loose, simply plug it back into the hole.

2. Tunnel Pooling (Design Flaw) If you check the hose and it is securely fastened, you might be dealing with a secondary design quirk. The factory A/C drain empties directly into the center tunnel rather than cleanly outside the car. Water can pool in the tunnel and eventually seep back through the grommet into the passenger footwell.

• The Fix: C8 owners often fix this by pulling back the carpet to access the grommet, pulling the factory elbow out, and attaching a long silicone extension tube to the elbow. You then route that extension tube further down into the tunnel so the condensation drains further back and away from the cabin opening ⁵.

3. Leaking Body Seam If you have ruled out the A/C drain entirely, there is a second known bulletin regarding a poorly sealed body seam on the passenger side that allows water intrusion ². This is a much more invasive fix that requires pulling up carpets and resealing the chassis.

4. Heater Core Leak (General Diagnostic) As a general rule of thumb, always check the fluid on the floor. If it is plain water, it's the A/C drain or a body seam. If the fluid feels oily or has a sickly-sweet smell, you are likely dealing with a leaking heater core or a loose coolant hose connection behind the dash.

Recommendation: If your E-Ray is still under warranty, pull the passenger trim panel to see if the hose is obviously disconnected. If it is, you can pop it back in yourself in five minutes.
