Why won't the trunk close on a Chevrolet Corvette C7 after installing a new battery?

This is a notoriously common quirk on the C7 platform—specifically on 2016 and newer models equipped with the auto-draw-down latch. When the battery dies or is replaced, the liftgate control module can lose its position logic. The trunk will grab the striker, pull it down, and then pop back open a few seconds later because the module doesn't recognize that it has successfully latched.

Here is the diagnostic and repair procedure to get the trunk latch working again, starting with the simplest fixes:

1. Perform a Hard Reset Often, the module just needs a complete power cycle to clear the glitch. Disconnect the negative battery cable and leave it off for 15 to 30 minutes to force the modules to reset ⁴. Reconnect it and try the trunk again.
