Here is the procedure to get it done without the car turning itself off mid-update:

1. Obtain the Correct Update

You cannot share map updates between vehicles. You must purchase a USB thumb drive directly from the GM Nav Disc Center, which will be hard-coded to your specific VIN ¹.

Start the engine. Insert the USB drive into the car's data port and follow the on-screen prompts to begin the update.

3. Prevent the Auto-Shutdown
